The Tony Walker Guide to the Kentucky Derby

The Kentucky Derby  is ripe with tradition, prestige, and of course, the infamous mint julep.  The actual race may only last two minutes, but this event is about much more than the ponies racing around the track at Churchill Downs.  We’ve got everything to get you ready for the sound of the bugle on May 4th to make your Derby Day worthy of a wreath of roses.

Where To Party
Of course the main event is the race itself, which goes off at 6pm on Saturday May 4th, but they are all about the pre parties in Lexington, and we are too! Come to Fashion First Friday on May 3rd to get your Derby party outfit and see a fashion show featuring exclusive pieces from our Vineyard Vines, Jack Rogers, and Lilly Pulitzer. We’ll have cocktails and appetizers to get you in perfect party mode for the weekend, and you’ll receive 10% off anything modeled on the runway.

We’ll also have our Laura Mercier makeup artists in for this special event. Call Tony Walker Body+Beauty at 445-3280 to schedule your one hour appointment with a Laura Mercier artist to get yourself picture perfect for whatever your derby plans might be. What To Wear
If you’re going to the derby, or a derby party, make sure you dress the part.  The Kentucky Derby is all about classic, preppy fashion.  Women should wear sandals, wedges, or heels, pastel dresses and, of course, a Derby-day hat, while men should sport a seersucker suit or a navy blazer with khakis- or a bright polo or crisp button-down for the more casual crowd. If you need an outfit, you’re in luck. We’ll have the most fabulous preppy prints and brightly colored pieces in all weekend long with special trunks from Vineyard Vines, Lilly Pulitzer, and Jack Rogers.

Leave your Footprint with TOMS

This past Tuesday, TOMS hosted their annual “One Day Without Shoes” receiving an overwhelming response. This annual event is to promote awareness about those who have to live without. TOMS one-for-one philosophy is helping to lift our spirits during this difficult week.

Did YOU know? In many developing countries, shoes are a required part of a child’s school uniform. Without shoes, children cannot attend school.
YOU can help! By purchasing a pair of TOMS, a pair is donated to a child in need. Providing this necessity increases a school’s attendance by 62%.

This weekend, we are hosting our TOMS Trade-In [April 19th- 21st]. Trade-in any old, worn out pair of TOMS or a similar brand (such as Sketcher’s BOBS) and receive a discount on a brand new pair. With every pair purchased, a pair is donated to a child in need.

We will be raffling off 2 pairs of TOMS and 2 pairs of TOMS sunglasses as well this weekend, so be sure to stop in to enter the raffle.

It could be the fact that they come in a color and style to fit right into anyone’s wardrobe, the fact that they are comfortable enough to wear all day, or it may be the fact that with each pair a customer purchases, a pair is donated to a child in need.

We love TOMS one-for-one philosophy, and with their annual “A Day Without Shoes” coming up this month, we decided to celebrate this brand.

Our TOMS Trade-In starts next weekend, April 19th-21st. Bring in your old, worn-out TOMS (and we know how beat up they can get!), and you can save up to $20 on a brand new pair.

Tory Burch released new colors and styles for Spring

We aren’t the only ones with warmer weather on our minds, Tory Burch created some awesome new colors of their iconic Reva flat for spring and summer.  The new colors in this classic shoe will update your look for spring and summer flawlessly.

The Reva flat now comes in ‘Iced Coffee’- a great neutral that wonderful for everyday wear, ‘Blue Nile’- a bright cobalt that is right on trend for the season,  and my personal favorite, ‘Coral Croc’- coral is such a hot color for this season and the croc embossed leather makes this flat easy to dress up or down.

Tory Buch also added a new style to their collection for the season, The Serena. Serena url-2is similar to the Reva, but features a tone-on-tone palette and leather cap toe detail that gives textural contrast and makes this flat effortlessly chic. I love the bright navy because it instantly adds sophistication and polish to any look while still being comfortable.

The fold-up shoe that perfectly pairs with any jeans

March is definitely a difficult month fashion-wise; not really winter anymore, but it doesn’t really feel like spring just yet. There are plenty of days that still require my favorite boots, but as temperatures begin to rise (if only into the 40s) I reach for a great pair of Yosi Samra flats.

I’m a big fan of Yosi Samra flats because they come in a wide array of leathers, patents, and prints, in tempting colors ranging from neons to neutrals. Not only are these flats incredibly fun, they are also really comfortable and so convenient- they are completely portable because they fold in half and can easily be tossed into any purse (perfect for the nights when those killer heels really do start to hurt your feet).

My go-to pre-spring outfit is my favorite pair of Citizens jeans, a comfortable t-shirt, and a slouchy Piece Apparel sweater paired with a bright pair of Yosi Samra flats. We just received a shipment of adorable florals and animal print flats that will definitely brighten your spring wardrobe. I love the White Leopard Print because it can easily be paired with any neutral, but they also look great paired with colored jeans or a neon top.

Rhianna’s favorite things: Tiny Tuesday Shoesday

There is nothing cuter than kid’s footwear. Every time Steph and I receive a new shipment of tiny shoes, we can’t help but ooo and aww.

So I wanted to share with you some of my personal favorite (and by far the cutest) shoes in Tiny Walker today for Tuesday Shoesday.

Kid’s TOMS- We have the largest selection of Kid’s TOMS in all of WNY. Our giant TOMS wall is filled with sizes ranging from toddler to kid’s in all different colors and styles. This is the perfect shoe for any young child, because not only are you providing shoes for your own children, but with each purchase a pair is donated to a child in need. Teach your children the One for One philosophy from an early age and we guarantee the world will be a better place.

Robeez- Due to customer’s requests, we brought back in our favorite infant footwear line- Robeez. Brand we can’t get enough of: Tory Burch

We love learning about our favorite brands. We recently received our Spring shipment of Tory Burch goodies in, including some amazing new flats and sandals. We decided to brush up on the brand history a little bit and share it with you:

Frye, not just your favorite boots anymore

We all know and love Frye boots. They are the ultimate celeb favorite (they’ve recently been on the feet of everyone from Anne Hathaway, to Miley Cyrus, to Reese Witherspoon), and a customer favorite as well! Not only are these beautiful leather boots trendy, but they are also functional. They are perfect with jeans and so cute with a dress- Screen Shot 2013-02-15 at 3.18.28 PMthey really will be your go-to boot.

So we know how much we love Frye Boots…but what about Frye heels? We brought in a pair to try them out…and we have to tell you- we are in love. The Samantha heel is comfortable because of it’s chunky heel and platform toe. I can honestly say I feel super secure when walking in these due to the ankle buckle.

One for One just in time for Spring

This past week, we received boxes upon boxes of new TOMS to fill in our amazing TOMS wall. We received up to a size 12 in women’s in some styles! So if you have visited us recently and couldn’t find your size- now is the time to stop back in.

Here are the 3 pairs of TOMS I just have to have this season:

Metallic Linen- These are perfect Spring colors, they just scream good weather. I think that if everyone in WNY gets a pair and wears them on the same day, the sun will HAVE to come out. These are available in turquoise, lavender, and natural.

Leopard Botas- If you are looking for something unique and a little different than your classic TOMS, the Botas are for you. My favorite is this leopard print pair which I can seeurl-1 paired with a pair of skinny jeans. If you don’t get at least 3 compliments each time you wear them…they’re on me. (Not really…but I still bet you will get many compliments on them!)

Red Polka Dot Classics- Okay…these have to be my absolute favorite. Every girl in our footwear department owns a pair (Stop in anytime this week and I bet you’ll see one of us wearing them). They are so comfortable and are lined with a soft wool on the inside. If you are on your feet during the day- these comfy shoes will not disappoint. They are the perfect addition to any girl’s shoe rack and the best part is we have so many sizes available! We have up to a size 12 in women’s in this style so everyone in WNY is covered!

How to perfectly pair your denim with your boots

I am having serious seasonal depression. I feel like I’m wearing my old, salt-stained, boots with all of my cute jeans and it’s really taking away from them. Do you have any suggestions for winter months on how to maintain my look while wearing boots?

Hi Cute to Boot!
I feel your pain. It seems like winter has been here for 8 months now. We all seem to go into hibernation mode in WNY during these long, cold, months. But the easiest way to cure that seasonal depression is to feel great about yourself and the way you look! So here are some tips on how to pair your favorite jean styles with the perfect boot:
Skinny Jeans look best tucked into your boots.
Boyfriend jeans or cropped jeans look amazing with ankle boots.
Bootcut jeans or wide leg jeans can slip right over any boot to hide them a little bit.
My last suggestion would to be to invest in some Chuggs Boot Spray. It really helps to keep your boots (especially UGG boots) looking fresh in the winter. It’s also a great investment because you can keep the same boots year after year.

Now that you know which boots would look best with your favorite jeans, bring us those old boots and trade them in this weekend during The UGG Trade-In! Save up to $60 on UGGS for Men, Women, and Children. If this doesn’t cure your seasonal depression, I don’t know what will! :)
